More Baby Nathan

Nathan was about a week old before Benjamin decided he was interested in holding him.  Prior to that he was very interested in looking at him... not as interested in touching him, lol.  ;-)  Here is Benjamin holding Nathan for the first time.

Since momma is usually the one responsible for feeding the babies in the beginning, daddy is in charge of feeding them from a bottle for the first time.  I introduced both boys to bottles early.  Since I work they're going to have to get used to a bottle, and they've both done great.

You know how newborn babies make those cute smiles and sighs while they sleep??  Love that!  I managed to catch a few on video.  Boring to the rest of you, I'm sure, but I could watch it forever.  They are so snugly at this age, and it goes by so fast.  Nathan is already so far past the newborn stage, I can't believe it.

Nathan is just over two months in this video.  His cute dimples just make his whole face smile and light up when he's happy, I love it!!  Seriously, I can't get enough!

Benjamin's supposed to be napping, this is what I hear:

Welcome to our family Baby Nathan!!

Welcoming Nathan to our family was definitely the biggest event of the year.  He is such a cutie, and we love him so much!  Since Benjamin was over 9 lbs and eight days early, my OB agreed to induce me early.  Nathan's due date was technically June 9th, but he was born on June 1st.  After dropping Benjamin off at Elaine's (she and Jenny were fabulous enough to watch him for the day), Jonathan and I had a nice relaxing drive up to the hospital.  They started an IV and pitocin around 10am, started an epidural about two hours later, broke my water just after the epidural (that was awesome timing!), and Nathan was born at 5:47pm!  Without getting too graphic, Nathan was a much easier delivery.  When my nurse got me ready to start pushing there was no pushing necessary, so she just called my OB, and Nathan was born just a few minutes after she arrived, no pushing at all!  Wow, what a difference.  I was giggling the whole time, I found the contrast to Benjamin's birth so funny!  I think it was making my L&D nurse a tad anxious, she kept telling me I needed to stop laughing or I'd laugh him out.  I might have been more concerned about that except that my nurse was fabulous, I'm completely confident she would have been fine if he had come out before my OB was there.

Brand spankin new baby!  Hi buddy!

See that IV in my hand?  I totally got to cut the cord!  How awesome is that?!
When Jonathan didn't want to cut the cord my OB asked if I wanted to (which I totally did.)

You can't help but stare at your babies when they finally arrive,
you have to wait so long to see them!

Yep, still has a cone-head.
Seriously loved my nurse Candie, she was so fabulous.

Nice and pink!  Nathan was so calm after he was born,
he didn't cry, he just keep looking around at everything.

That rounds to 9lbs, 3 oz, and he was 21 inches long.
That's a big boy! (Yes, I was so glad I went for the induction!)

Meeting Daddy!

It actually took a few days to confirm his name, but we named him Nathan Dean Heider.  Nathan is named after his dad Jonathan (spares the Sr/Jr confusion) and Jonathan's maternal grandfather Dean Mansfield.  These next pictures are from the following afternoon when Benjamin came to meet his new brother.

What's that?

It's a baby!

Making sure he's all covered up.

This is Nathan's outfit to come home!!
We are so excited to bring him home with us!
Love those chunky cheeks my babies have.  ;-)

Here are a some of the pictures of people meeting Nathan.
(I missed pictures of some people somehow, sorry!)

I'm going to be a big brother!

I bought Benjamin a baby doll to help get him used to the idea of having a little brother and what a baby is.  We taught him that he had to treat his "baby" how he would treat his brother, so he had to hold him carefully, talk to him softly, he could cover him with a blanket but had to be able to see his face, etc.
The picture below is about a month before Nathan was born,
the video is a few months after Nathan was born.  So cute.

Benjamin's First Bike!

We bought him a balance bike last spring, isn't it awesome?
Think Flintstones: no pedals, you just kick with your feet and coast.

Singing & Shoes... Love this little boy.

Love the Zoo!

Lauren and I took the boys to the zoo a few times last year, so much fun!

We saw the gorillas way up close!

The Carousel

On the train again... of course.  ;-)

Easter

Not much to say for this post, but this is from Easter 2011, I just think it's cute, so I'm posting it.  ;-)

Benjamin Turned Two!

Since Benjamin is still a few weeks away from his third birthday, I figure I'm getting these up just in time.  ;-)  We took him on a train ride at the mall for his second birthday, which he thought was pretty fun!

We also had a small party with friends and family:

The balloons were definitely a favorite.  Funny boy didn't even want to open presents.
He pitched a fit when we tried to convince him, so we just let him run around
with the balloons and we took the gifts home to open later.

Picture of almost everyone who came: Connie, Elaine, Jenny, Jona, Noah, Kayla, Lauren, Jack, Emily, Will, Mary, Jonathan, Emily, and of course Benjamin!  (Missing my dad, Bryan, Amy, and McKell.)
After the party we went swimming!!  Benjamin is pretty much a fish in the water, so he had a blast!

Weeee!!! (This is also a great view of my six-month pregnant belly...
Gotta love being pregnant in a swimsuit.)

Oh my gosh, Jack, this picture made me laugh when I saw it!

Benjamin is over on the left diving for his dive rings, how many kids do
that by their second birthday?  I told you he was a fish.  ;-)

The Barrus/Gamboa clan

Tired by the end of the day!

I'm Back!!

Wahoo!  Did you miss me??  Well, whether you did or not over the next week I'm going to do a bunch of posts, kind of a "summary of 2011."  Afterwards I hope (again) to keep up the blog updated better.  It's fun to keep track of whats been going on and what we've done so that we can go back and look over it all.  So enjoy!  ;-)
